The
Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office business office and Civil Division
consist of three civilian employees, two deputies and five outside
deputies that serve civil papers full time. The Civil Division received
over 71,000 papers for service in 2002. The business office issues
10,000 plus pistol permits per year. Both the business office and
Civil Division are headed by Sgt. Ben Tingle. Other services handled
by the business office include:
- Perform civil paper executions,
including local, out-of-county, as well as out-of-state civil
papers. Also, the division keeps records of incoming and outgoing
civil papers and bank accounts of collections that are made by
our department
- Removal of prisoners
- Oversee voter elections
- Assist in the fingerprinting of
children in local schools, both public and private
- Engage in the mailing of hundreds
of criminal subpoenas yearly
