Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Office
Sheriff Ted Sexton

Sheriff's Citizen's Academy

Approximately 383 citizens of Tuscaloosa County have graduated from The Sheriff's Citizen Academy since its beginning in 1992. Sheriff Sexton began this program to better familiarize citizens with law enforcement after returning from the FBI National Academy.

The eleven week curriculum dealing with all areas of law enforcement is designed to provide the citizens with an understanding of the workings of The Sheriff's Office and the areas involved therein. Every day practices as well as policies and procedures are learned in a relaxed environment presented by those who do these assignments on a daily basis.

The Tuscaloosa Co. Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy is currently taking application for the next session. The purpose of the Citizens Academy is to educate residents in the daily procedures of the Sheriff's Office. For more information contact Lt. Gary Hood of the training division at 752-0616.
