The
Tuscaloosa County Sheriffs Office Training Division was established
in 1991 with the philosophy that the key to professional law enforcement
is an effective effort in training and education of all law enforcement
personnel.
Deputies receive annual
training in the areas of firearms, defensive tactics, survival techniques,
hazardous materials, domestic violence, case law updates and other
topics which serve to improve the quality of performance of deputies
better enabling them to serve the public.
The
Sheriff's Office maintains several in-house instructors on most
topics that are taught on a regular basis. These instructors
receive addition training and re-certification on a regular basis.
The Sheriffs
Office maintains ongoing training programs for both enforcement
(79 deputies) and detention officers (70 officers). This training
is conducted by Sheriffs Office personnel as well as other
instructors from other agencies. The Training Division is under
the direction of Lieutenant
John K. Dorriety and Cpl.
Dale Phillips.
