When the subject entered the apartment he sexually assaulted her and ran from the scene. 2/24/09 at 11:00am a 20-year-old female stated that a Hispanic male knocked on her boyfriend’s apartment door in the 300 block of Reed Street and told her that he was there for a maintenance problem. Once inside he sexually assaulted her and fled the scene. During the investigation process, detailed description of the rape suspect was given out to area law enforcement agencies. On March 5, 2009 a Tuscaloosa Police Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver, Alexander Velazquez Hernandez, appeared similar to the suspect composite given out by the Homicide Unit. A Homicide investigator was called to the scene and a DNA sample was taken from the suspect. On June 10, 2009 the Alabama Department of Forensic Science Lab called and advised the Homicide Unit that the DNA from both previously mentioned sexually assaults originated from the same suspect. DFS also advised us that the DNA from both crime scenes matched the DNA sample taken from Alexander Velazquez Hernandez.
