Communications Dispatcher

Job Description

Receives and disseminates citizen calls for service, telephone, computer, radio and alarm systems calls; displays the ability to handle calls independently as per procedural general orders; calls received vary from routine calls for service to emergency life threatening situations.

Job Duties

  • Answer telephone and directs called to proper office
  • Receive information requesting service from Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office
  • Enter information received by telephone, radio, or other means in a departmental system with speed and accuracy in stressful environment
  • Dispatch calls for service to deputies on patrol
  • Provide communication services as per deputies’ requests
  • Maintain shift log of incoming calls for service on computer log
  • Maintain computer radio log
  • Enter and receive information by computer regarding ownership of vehicle registrations
  • With NCIC and ACJIS computer systems, verifies warrants, wanted persons, stolen vehicles and other property items
  • Receive and dispatch volunteer fire units to fires or other emergencies
