Description
Maintains order and discipline among inmates held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

 

 

 Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities            

  • Ability to exercise mature judgement in the discipline and supervision of inmates in custody
  • Ability to control inmates individually and in groups
  • Ability to remember names and faces
  • Alertness and ability to act quickly in an emergency
  • Willingness to follow orders explicitly
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be at work on time

Qualifications

  • Education - High school diploma or GED
  • Age - 18 years of age or older
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must pass a medical exam and drug screen

Duties:

The role of a Detention Deputy involves supervising the conduct of inmates at the Tuscaloosa County Jail

Enforce rules and regulations; participate in booking, fingerprinting, photographing, and processing of new inmates

Take counts of prisoners

Maintains constant watch for and reports unusual conditions or disturbances; takes required action in emergencies to prevent escapes or suppress disorder

Escort inmates from cellblock to visiting rooms, recreational or other areas

Monitor inmates' physical conditions, report illness or injury to superiors

Operate electronic monitoring equipment, maintain records, operate two-way communications and performs related work as required
